A publication design to highlight Maitland’s vibrant poets.
The aim of Maitland Verses Poets was to promote poetry in Maitland and the region by establishing a weekly poets-in-residence program, giving eight poets the opportunity to regularly write and share their work with the community in local cafes. Verses: The First Stanza (2017-2020) documents the project with an introductory overview and poet profiles, each accompanied by a poem written during their residency.
Note: The publication design drew inspiration from the photos of the poets taken at the entrance to Maitland Regional Art Gallery in front of an abstract mural by Newcastle artist Brett Piva. The mural’s colour palette was incorporated into the design with acknowledgment and permission. Poet portraits taken by New Digital.
