Sabi Wabi Wine

Award-winning winemaker Peta Kotz, founder of Sabi Wabi Wine, needed a visual identity for her business that reflected her personal approach to winemaking. Inspired by the Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi, which embraces beauty in natural imperfection, Peta creates natural wines with traditional techniques and an experimental spirit.

A custom hand crafted logo

To celebrate the unique natural winemaking process, the logo was hand-crafted and created using traditional linocut printing techniques.

This involved hand drawing the logo and carving it into lino, which was then rolled with ink, hand burnished onto printmaking paper and scanned into a digital format.

Original art as labels

Each label design is an original artwork, evolving over time to reflect the nature of each wine release. Together we have created wine labels for the 2020, 2021, 2022 & 2023 releases, along with supporting marketing materials.

Photography

Sabi Wabi Wine needed a selection of portrait and product photographs for a feature in Australia’s leading independent drinks journal The Wine Mag. We worked together with local photographer Karen Steains to produce a series of images that capture the character of Peta and her wine.
